A message from Sterling

Throughout my years of public service, I have learned that listening to you, my fellow neighbors, is the single most important thing I can do as a public servant. Over the past six years, we have accomplished great things for the Westside and the city of Spartanburg.

A few of our accomplishments include:
  • Securing body cameras for Spartanburg Police Department officers;
  • Purchasing property for the new fire department at a negotiated lower price with NO TAX INCREASE;
  • Being a good steward of taxpayer dollars, leading the fight to eliminate a tax increase in the 2019-2020 budget;
  • Protecting the zoning rights of homeowners on the Westside;
  • Building St. Matthews Park, the first city park on the Westside;
  • Championing the development of the Downtown Airport Park, a new aviation-themed park featuring picnic shelters, playgrounds, swing sets, paved walking/running path and a splash pad;
  • Improving Westside sidewalks and much needed street lighting;
  • Adding safety improvements to Holly Drive, including rebuilding the culvert and adding guardrails;
  • Supporting efforts to beautify the western gateway into the city, preventing litter and adding a new part of the Daniel Morgan Trail on Vanderbilt Road;
  • Supporting growth and redevelopment across the city of Spartanburg, including the Montgomery and Aug. W. Smith buildings, T.K. Gregg Community Center, Franklin School and the Northside Development Initiative.

Though our accomplishments are many, more work lies ahead. District 1 needs committed, proven leadership to ensure that we continue the progress we have enjoyed. Future goals include sidewalks along Highway 29 into the city, along with many other improvements you have suggested. We must continue working together to ensure every family has the same opportunity to raise their children in a safe, thriving neighborhood. We must continue to improve the quality of life for the Westside.

I would be honored to have your support and your vote.
